About Esther DeJong
When I was introduced to MBCP, I recognized a philosophy, similar to my own, of birth as a normal physiological event with a strong mind-body connection. Teaching MBCP seemed like the natural evolution in my professional and personal life. Mindfulness attitudes of “no attachments, no aversions” and “be here now” and “surrendering to what is” have always been part of my approach to birthing. I have long asserted that “being able to take one's mind’s attention where one wants it to go” is probably the most helpful tool during labor. MBCP teaches this skill through a variety of meditation practices, yoga, and ice “contraction practice.”
